The Production Manager leads the production team and its activities, allowing the Sales Producer to liaise between the production team and the client and ensure the best possible client experience throughout the process. The Production Manager ensures flawless budgetary, strategic, and technical execution and facilitates communication among sales producers, technical & creative directors, media producers, and designers. The PM leads all aspects of project management, pre-production services, logistical planning and on-site management of events; secures and manages staff, vendors, and resources to meet client and staff expectations; and ensures that the financial requirements of the company are met by each project.
National and international travel are required. A successful PM has the opportunity within the company to grow into a Sales Producer and/or Technical Director role; critical assistance to these two positions, as well as the ability to work with and manage clients, will help a PM progress within the company.
Production Manager Job Duties:
- Development and supervision of production budgets
- Oversight of staff and freelance teams
- Prioritization of internal resources
- The creation of and follow up on detailed production schedules
- Initiation of quality control procedures throughout the entire project process
- Articulate in communication with the venue, and management of on-site activities
- Leadership of regular meetings and calls to capture best practices and incorporate those into workflow
- Oversight of budgets to maximize gross profits and minimize project overrun under the direction of the Sales Producer
- Labor, contractor, and vendor coordination, including travel arrangements and approval of travel expenses
- Support of Sales Producer in client communication, internal communication, budgeting, and expense centers
- Support of Technical Director re: RFP Creation/equipment acquisition, internal communication, and communication with the venue (letters, schedules, etc.)
Production Manager Skills and Qualifications:
- 7+ years in a production company, marketing firm, creative agency, or relevant consulting firm
- Management experience desirable, including budget and financial management, team leadership, employee development, cross-organization collaboration
- Leadership experience in show production with a show-must-go-on attitude (theater or live music productions preferred)
- Management style focused on leading processes rather than managing people
- Ability to work as part of an innovative creative team
- Results driven passion for the work, and pride in a job well done
- Proactive and independent in a self-managed, project-based environment
- Effective communication and facilitation skills over multiple projects and priorities
- Comprehensive, big-picture understanding as well as a grasp of fine details
- Thorough understanding of and design experience with structural and mechanical construction for the stage, including materials, techniques, and rigging; carpentry experience preferred
- Microsoft Office experience required (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc)
- Proficient with Google Docs
- Familiarity in Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD
